Evidence of oblate-prolate shape coexistence in the strongly-deformed nucleus 119Cs

Prolate-oblate shape coexistence close to the ground state in strongly-deformed proton-rich A?120 nuclei is reported for first time. One of four bands 119Cs, built on a 11/2? at 670 keV, consists nearly degenerate signature partners, and has properties which unequivocally indicate strongly-coupled ?h11/2[505]11/2? configuration associated with oblate shape. Together decoupled ?h11/2[541]3/2? band prolate 110 half-life T1/2=55(5)?s been measured, new bring evidence low spin strongly deformed nuclei, phenomenon predicted since long time, but not yet observed. Calculations using particle-number conserving cranked shell model two dimensional tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory support well reproduce observed coexisting low-energy states 119Cs.

The prolate-oblate shape phase transition in the interacting boson model

The prolate-oblate shape phase transition in the the interacting boson model is revisited by adopting the transitional Hamiltonian with a linear dependence on the control parameter. The analysis of the shape phase transition in both the large-N limit and finite N case shows that the O(6) symmetry is robust as the critical point symmetry of the prolate-oblate shape phase transition.
